Custom-made Panels for Artists
Framing 4 Artists now offers custom-made panels for artists. We are offering the following four materials:
Lauan is a lightweight panel with a porous wood surface. Good for mixed media applications, collage, and canvas stretching. Our most economical art panel.
Hardboard is made of compressed wood fiber and resin. Its dense composite is rigid and stable, creating a perfectly smooth surface. A good choice for artists who prefer a panel free from wood grain. (Hardboard is often referred to as masonite).
Birch Plywood is a smooth, tight-grained wood surface. It is lightweight and strong, making it ideal for larger size panels. A good choice for painters who prefer to paint on a natural wood substrate.
Birch MDF (Birch Veneer with a Medium Density Fiber Board Core). The MDF core is very dense, providing stability in the panel. The combination of the birch veneer with the dense MDF core creates the smoothest surface available in a wood veneer.
The cradles are made from high density Baltic Birch plywood. Framing 4 Artists panels are well-crafted, with mitered corners and perfectly smooth edges. Larger panels include diagonal supports and cross-braces for a guaranteed warp-free, stable surface. Standard cradle depths are 1 1/2” and 2 1/4”. Please note: Panels come without sizing. For archival preservation, Framing 4 Artists recommends sealing the panels and sizing with gesso.
